Sadly Sir Jimmy Savile OBE has died aged 84, only 2 days short of his 85th birthday.
The DJ, Presenter, and TV & Radio personality, was the first and last presenter of the long-running BBC chart show Top of The Pops, first aired in 1964.
Jimmy Savile is widely acknowledged as being one of the first in England, and indeed the world, to use twin turntables for continuous music play, thus pioneering the concept of DJing as we know it today. His career in radio started in 1958 aged 32 as a presenter for Radio Luxembourg. He then joined BBC Radio 1 in 1968 a year after its launch, where stayed until 1987, clocking up 19 years at the world famous station.
Sir Jimmy will be missed. He was indeed a real character and legend to the very end.
