12th Annual DJ Awards

The 12th Edition of the DJ Awards took place on Thursday 24th September at Pacha, Ibiza. The event was a huge celebration of yet another fantastic year for electronic dance music. Hosted by Des Paul from MTV UK and Capital Radio London to a packed venue. This year the concept of dreams was chosen as the theme for the annual DJ Awards ceremony held in Ibiza.

Every year the DJ Awards celebrates the top DJ's in several music genres from "Techno" to "Trance" along with the industry's up and coming new breakthrough names. The music awards are voted for by the public, making them extra special for the winners.

Sven Vath, Armin Van Buuren, Sasha, Guy Gerber and Luciano were just some of electronic dance music's leading names to take home a coveted DJ Awards Kryptonite. Special awards were presented to those who have influenced and dedicated their services to the music industry; Pete Tong collected the award for Outstanding Contribution for the International Music Summit as well as F***Me I'm Famous for Best Ibiza Night. Rob Da Bank went away with 2 awards, one for Downtempo & Eclectic and one for International Dance Music Festival. Michel Cleis "La Mezcla" won Best Ibiza Track.

2009 was the first year for an extra special award, the Bedroom DJ award. Thousands of DJs and fans logged into www.djawards.com to watch the competition entries and vote for their favourite Bedroom DJ. From the many entries came one clear winner, 26 year old Malaysian trance DJ Droolotte Tasha. The lucky winner will be flying to Ibiza for a once-in-a-lifetime trip including a masterclass with trance legend Paul Van Dyk at Cafe Mambo.

Each year the DJ Awards recognises the Ibiza Resident whose music, style and personality has made an impact on the island's nightlife and clubbers. This year, instead of an industry panel nominating the candidates, for the first time the public voted for the nominees for Best Ibiza Resident DJ, which was won by Tomas Hedberg. Tomas has played at all the super clubs on the island and currently holds a residency for Pete Tong's sought after Wonderland party @ Eden.

Barbara Tucker, one of the most respected and well know vocal figures in the dance music industry, performed live at the awards, celebrating a career spanning 25 years.

David Guetta after leaving the stage grasping his Kryptonite award for the Best House DJ, headed for the DJ booth with Tuccillo to prove himself a worthy winner as the sounds of his successful "F*** Me I'm Famous" party took the DJ Awards well into the early hours of the morning.
